SUMMER SCHOOL REGULATIONS AND PRINCIPLES
The Regulations and Principles of Balıkesir University Computer Engineering Department Summer School are based on the following regulations:
• Balıkesir University Summer School Regulation
• Balıkesir University Associate and Undergraduate Education, Instruction and Examination Regulation
• Balıkesir University Senate Decision
• Balıkesir University Exemption and Adaptation Directive
Accordingly, we share the following information to clarify or remind certain articles of the Balıkesir University Summer School Regulation:
Article-1 “The objectives of the summer school are listed below:”
b) “... to enable students to take courses they have failed or not taken in previous semesters, and also to take courses from the following two semesters...”
c) “To facilitate students’ ability to follow the curricula of their enrolled programs and also to enable successful students to graduate in a shorter time.”
d) “To provide university students with the opportunity to graduate within the prescribed period of study.”
Article 7 : “Final registrations for the Summer School are made before the start date of the Summer School determined by the Senate. After final registration, adding or dropping courses, freezing registration, or withdrawal from a course is not permitted. Fees paid are non-refundable. If a student’s registration is canceled for any reason, the registration for the Summer School is also canceled.”
(Amended paragraph: OG-6/6/2011-27956) “In the Summer School, a student may register for courses with a total value of up to 12 credits.”
Article 8- “…The relevant unit's management board is authorized to determine the equivalency of courses taken at other institutions and the admission of students”. In this regard, the equivalency of courses will be determined according to the Balıkesir University Exemption and Adaptation Procedures Directive.
Article 10- Attendance in summer term courses is mandatory. Having fulfilled the attendance requirement for a course in the regular academic term does not exempt the student from attending the same course in the Summer Term. …”
Article 13- “In cases not covered by this regulation, the Balıkesir University Associate Degree and Undergraduate Education, Teaching, and Examination Regulation, as well as the relevant Unit’s Education-Teaching and Examination Guidelines, shall apply.”
Accordingly:
1. A student can take courses from the following two semesters in the summer school. For example, if you have completed the 2nd year, you can take courses from the 3rd year but not from the 4th year ( based on Article 1, paragraph (b) of the Summer Term Regulation ).
2. Students taking courses from other universities can take courses with a credit deficit of up to 0.5 credits. For example, a 3+0 (3 credits) course in our system can be taken as a minimum of 2.5 credits at another university. Taking a course with a higher credit value will not create an issue ( based on Article 8 of the Summer Term Regulation ).
3. Courses taken from other universities and courses provided by us must have at least 50% content overlap ( based on Article 8 of the Summer Term Regulation ).
4. If a course taken from another university is included in the mandatory or elective course pool of Balıkesir University Computer Engineering, you can take that course. The external course will be considered as an equivalent for an elective course in the current curriculum for the following two semesters.
5. The content of a course taken from another university should not be identical to the content of a course you have already completed ( based on Article 6, paragraph 11 of the Associate and Undergraduate Education-Teaching and Examination Regulation and Article 8 of the Summer Term Regulation ).
6. The elective course pool available in the summer term is listed in the curriculum.
7. Please do not make any payments without obtaining approval.
